Jules Downum is co-owner and director of Zanzibar Studio in Chattanooga, TN. She has been belly dancing since 2003 and has been teaching for 13 years. In addition to her weekly classes at Zanzibar, she teaches and performs Tribal and Contemporary Fusion belly dance throughout the US and abroad.
From 2008-2013 Jules lived in San Diego, CA where she had the honor of studying, teaching, and performing as a principle dancer and choreographic collaborator in Urban Tribal Dance Company, directed by Heather Stants. Jules’ time dancing with Stants laid the foundation for her approach to contemporary fusion and she is so grateful for that experience.
Jules returned to her home town of Chattanooga in 2013. Since that time she has been directing and co-directing student performance groups locally (Contemporary and Tribal Fusion) and performing as a soloist at events across the US. She has also had the opportunity to work under the direction of many of today’s top artists including Heather Stants, Mira Betz, Zoe Jakes, and Mardi Love; and to partner with two of her biggest inspirations Lacy Jo and Mattie Waters.
