Tribal Revolution Classes

There are more workshops than ever this year including a newly expanded music class track! Workshop descriptions are below! Teacher bios can be found here!

Friday, June 20:

12:30-2:30: Overlaying Isolations, Amy Sigil Style
Amy’s Art of Overlay is at the heart of this intermediate to advanced bellydance workshop aimed to add expressive layers and distinction to your dance style.  Although controlled simultaneous movement is a complex idea, this class provides a simple approach certain to bring impressive results. Beginning with a thorough breakdown of basic isolation technique, Amy will expand such elements as core strength and relaxed tension, and then demonstrate helpful exercises that are necessary to develop an awareness needed to isolate key muscle groups.  Then she will teach and drill an isolation combo that incorporates the artistic flare unique to Amy Sigil and UNMATA. Because this class is designed for the intermediate to advanced dancer, a sufficient understanding of balance and timing is prerequisite.

3:00-5:00: Tribe Marrakech Tribal Fusion Combos: Fast and Funky
Funk it up, Baby! Putting a little funk into your improv dancing can be tricky. This class will help you spice up your dance with some fun and funky alternative moves. Placed within combos, these moves come with a cue so you can put them into your improv dance, or use them easily in a choreography.

3:00-5:00: Dancing to a Different Beat: Tribal Impov in 6/8 Time with Blue Lotus Tribe
Why limit your tribal improv to 4/4 music? Blue Lotus Tribe has created a system by which you can take your basic tribal improv moves and reset them to fit with all that 6/8 music you've been dying to use. After getting used to the basics in a new time signature, Christina of Blue Lotus Tribe will teach several transition moves and combinations that work with a 6/8 count and can be used in your improv format or in a choreography. By the end of the workshop you'll have enough moves to perform an entire song as well as the foundation knowledge you'll need to alter or create your own moves and combinations to work for 6/8 music.

Saturday, June 21

3:30-5:30: Unmata 110% with Amy Sigil
No bellydance fusion enthusiast ever drowned from sweat, and to train like the UNMATA grrrls, you’ve got to be willing to get down and get wet.  After this rigorous workshop you’ll walk away with two of Amy Sigil’s signature combos—broken down into movement components, bootlaced together, and drilled ‘til you’re ready to drop.  Be prepared to tap into your hidden reserves of strength and sass as you take on this class.  Warning: 110% is not for paper dolls. And yes, the music will be very, very loud.

10:00-12:00: Intermediate/Advanced Swordwork with Tribe Marrakech
Sword dancing is a mysterious and amazingly beautiful art. That is the point in which the sword dance becomes truly mesmerizing. Join us and explore the possibilities. All students MUST have a sword, and MUST be capable of balancing it on their head.
