Want to Perform in the Showcases?

READ CAREFULLY BELOW. WE HAVE COMPLETELY CHANGED OUR PROCESS!

Introducing the new Tribal Revolution Participant Showcases:

Now that Tribal Revolution is a four-day event, we are adding a show so that we may have TWO participant showcases instead of one. The first showcase will be Thursday evening and the second will be Friday evening. Eligible performers will be selected by a random lottery drawing of submitted applications. All Tribal Rev participants with six or more workshop hours are eligible to apply to perform in the showcases, but as always, there are some guidelines to follow. In fairness to everyone, these will apply to all applicants, regardless of your history with Tribal Revolution.

Performer Submission Process:

    February 1, 2012
  • The performer application form will open, along with Tribal Rev registration.

  • A form will appear at the bottom of this page for you to submit your basic information, along with a link to a performance video of you or your troupe. This does not have to be what you plan on performing at Tribal Rev; just a video that gives us a taste of what you're all about.

  • Wait patiently. Do not pester the Loti.

March 15, 2012

  • The application on the web site will disappear at the end of the day. We will not accept applications after this date.

  • The Showcase Loti will review all applications. Any ineligible applications will be returned to the sender for corrections (see guidelines below). Corrections will have to be made no later than March 22, 2012 or the application will be discarded.

  • The Showcase Loti will randomly draw entries from completed applications to fill the Friday night spots first, then the Thursday spots. Any leftover applicants will also be drawn at random to establish the order of the wait list, in case any performers have to cancel.

April 1, 2012 is the date by which all applicants will receive word that they are performing or not, and on which night, along with instructions on how to send your complete performance information or your place on the wait list, if applicable.

May 1, 2012 is the date by which all performance information is due. If you miss this deadline, you run the risk of losing your spot to someone on the wait list.

Performer Guidelines:

  • For each performer you plan to put on stage, there must be six hours of workshop registrations before the March 15 application deadline. As in the past, troupe members can pool their hours to reach this goal (If one member of a troupe only has four hours but another has eight, that's fine). Applications failing to meet the workshop requirements will not be put into the lottery for drawing.

  • For duets and trios, all performers must be registered for one or more workshops.

  • For troupes of four or more, over half of the troupe members must be registered for one or more workshops (3 out of 4, 3 out of 5, 4 out of 6 etc)

  • Each dancer may only apply to perform once. In order to include as many fabulous dancers as possible, we have created a new rule that disallows "double dipping." For example, if you apply to perform as a soloist and a member of a troupe, you will be asked to choose between the two.

  • All deadlines are firm. A lot of work goes into creating just one Tribal Revolution Showcase, so creating two of them is twice as hard. In order for things to run smoothly, we need the info by the dates stated.

Have Questions?

Please read through these anticipated questions before contacting the Showcase Loti.

Q. I was selected to perform on a night I can't be there. What now?

A. If your name is drawn for a night you can't attend, we will add you to the very top of the wait list for the other night. Chances are, someone on that night will be in the same predicament. Remember though, if you choose to go on the other night's wait list, you will lose your spot on your original night to a wait lister, so there's no going back once you ask us to move your night.

Q. I submitted myself as a solo and was not selected, but the troupe I dance with, where my name did not appear, was. Can I dance with them since I'll not be doing my solo?

A. Absolutely! Just make sure that whoever submits your troupe information for the show includes your name on the final performer list. The same goes for you if you dance in two troupes and the one you are listed on was not selected but the other one was. You can be added to the selected troupe instead.

Q. I am a teacher who was selected to do a solo, but my student troupe was not. Can I give my spot to them and join them onstage instead?

A. Yes, but to dissuade abuse of the solo-for-troupe trade, we'll only be offering this option to instructors and their student troupes.

Q. I'd like to start planning my performance now. What are the time restrictions on stage?

A. All performers are allowed five minutes of performance time. If you are selected to perform, you will be asked to submit your music by May 1 so that we can make sure it fits within the guidelines.

Q. Can I bring musicians and perform to live music?

A. Of course, we love live music! If you have musicians who need to set up and you are not opening a set, you will be given a couple of minutes extra to get your musicians on stage. If you are working with live music though, please rehearse to the five minute limit and respect the other dancers in regards to stage time. If you are sharing musicians with other dancers, please let us know when you send your info so that we can put these performances back to back and cut down on stage setup time.

Q. Do the acts have to be family friendly? Are there other restrictions on performances?

A. Although you don't have to G-rate your performance, please consider that there will be some children in the audience. There always are. Here are the other performance restrictions:

--Costuming must be appropriate for public wear, with all of the "bits" adequately covered.

--Mild cursing in lyrics is okay, but lyrics with misogynistic or violent and hateful imagery will not be accepted.

--There can be no fire performing of any kind, per our venue.

--Ceilings are very high so all manner of non-flaming props will work at our new space.

--Keep in mind that we are in a hotel ballroom and not a theater. There will be no blackouts or curtain pulls. We will have stage lighting so our video and photography will look their best, but all dancers will be visible as they enter and exit the stage.

    Q. Can I apply to perform in the Saturday show?

A. Unfortunately, we are running into the same problem of excessive length for the Saturday show and it gets longer as we add instructors every year. The Saturday Gala will be Tribal Revolution instructors only so we can all enjoy a spectacular show of reasonable length.

Q. Do performers need to buy tickets to the show they are in?

A. No. Performers have free admission to the show they are performing in and will recieve a performer's ticket. They may watch the show when they are not on or back stage. Attendance to shows on other nights, however, is not complimentary.
