A University graduate at the age of nineteen, Sylvia Salamanca majored in ballet. She performed professionally as a featured modern dance artist in major European festivals and events with the Contemporary Dance Company of the University of Barcelona. She began her career as a Middle Eastern dancer in 2001. Originally from Mallorca, Spain, Sylvia now resides in Texas. Silvia performs locally in Houston at a Greek venue with a live band. She has performed around the world at conventions, festivals, theaters and the like. She instructs all over the world as well and has a studio, Ballam, in Houston. She also directs the troupe, Shunyata Bellydance, a tribal fusion group. She also performs with Urban Gypsy, an ATS troupe.
Silvia has two instructional DVD’s, “Spanish Gypsy Passion” and “Fire of the Spanish Gypsies.” Both feature dancing with a skirt.
“Dance is a journey of self-discovery,” Silvia says. “The closer I get to my heart, the better I can put some meaning and connection with the audience into my dance.”
